Introduction of Librarian

Eligibility to Become a Librarian

There are many courses available to become a librarian. These are diploma courses or certificate courses, bachelor’s degree courses, master’s degree courses, M.Phil and Ph.D.

Eligibility for all level courses almost remains the same. Candidates must have an aggregate of 55% in 10+2 grade from a recognized board to pursue Certificate, Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree, and Master’s Degree. For taking admission into Ph.D. and M.Phil. courses candidates should have at least 60% in their master’s.

Certificate in Library Science

Certificate in Library and Information Science

Both courses vary from 6 months to 1-year duration.

Diploma Courses:

Diploma in Library Science

Diploma in Library and Information Science

Post Graduate Diploma in Library Automation and Networking

These three courses are of 1 year duration.

Undergraduate Courses:

Bachelor in Library Science (B.Lib)

Bachelor of Library and Information Science (B.Lib.I.Sc)

These both are 1-year degree courses.

Postgraduate Courses:

Master of Library Science

Master of Library and Information Science

These both are 1 year degree courses.

M.Phil. or Ph.D.:

M.Phil. Library and Information Science

Ph.D. in Library and Information Science

These both can be completed in 2-3 years.
