Sunanda Rao Ignites Innovation at ‘Mega Tinkering Day’

NEW DELHI, 12 August 2025 – In a powerful display of the Atal Innovation Mission’s (AIM) commitment to hands-on learning, Sunanda Rao, a distinguished Regional Mentor of Change, spearheaded the ‘Mega Tinkering Day’ event at The Mann School, Delhi.

As a cornerstone of the Mentor of Change program, Ms. Rao’s visit highlighted the vital role that expert guidance plays in nurturing India’s next generation of innovators.

Her dedicated service to this cause since 2022 underscores her long-standing commitment.

The nationwide event, which united over 10,000 Atal Tinkering Labs (ATLs), saw 75 students at The Mann School enthusiastically participate in the live-streamed project to design and build a DIY vacuum cleaner.

The one-hour challenge was broadcast live on YouTube and a Zoom link.

Throughout the session, Ms. Rao moved between 3 groups, providing personalized, on-the-ground support.

She served as a guide, not an instructor, helping students troubleshoot challenges, encouraging them to think critically, and fostering a collaborative spirit.

“The real power of Mega Tinkering Day is not just in the projects students build, but in the confidence they gain from solving problems on their own,” said Sunanda Rao.

“Having been a part of this journey as a mentor of change since 2022, it’s incredibly rewarding to see this grassroots innovation movement grow.

My goal is to ignite that spark. It was inspiring to see the young minds at The Mann School tackle this challenge with such curiosity and determination.

This is the kind of problem-solving that will truly drive the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat.’

Ms. Rao’s presence underscored the ethos of the Mentor of Change program, a voluntary national movement where skilled professionals offer their expertise to students in ATLs.

Her engagement at The Mann School served as a testament to the program’s success in connecting theory with practical application and providing students with the mentorship needed to transform their ideas into tangible solutions.

Her visit captured the essence of the day—a synchronized national effort to empower young minds and prove that the future of innovation is being built in classrooms across India, guided by dedicated mentors.
