UPSC 2024 Prelims: New Date Amid Lok Sabha Elections
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced the rescheduling of the UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2024, originally planned for May 26, 2024. The new date for the UPSC CSE prelims exam 2024 is June 16. This decision comes in response to the schedule announced by the Election Commission for the 18th Lok Sabha elections, scheduled from April 19 to June 1, 2024.
The postponement of the exam aims to accommodate the General Election schedule. The UPSC IAS written exams will consist of two shifts: the General Studies paper in the morning session from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM, and the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) in the afternoon session from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM.
Earlier, the UPSC had extended the registration deadline for the UPSC IAS exam 2024 until March 6, with a subsequent correction window open from March 7 to March 13. Admit cards for the UPSC IAS prelims exam 2024 will be available for download from the official website at least 10 days before the exam date.
This year, the UPSC has announced a total of 1,056 vacancies for the CSE exam and 150 for the Indian Forest Service (IFoS). The UPSC CSE assessment comprises three phases: prelims, mains, and the personality test. The preliminary exam for UPSC CSE will feature objective-type questions, with candidates who score above the specified cut-off marks qualifying for the UPSC CSE Main Exam 2024.
The UPSC IAS Main exams are scheduled to be conducted from September 20, spanning five days. Candidates must meet specific age criteria, being at least 21 years old but not older than 32 years as of August 1, 2024. This translates to candidates being born between August 2, 1992, and August 1, 2003.
