NIOS 2025–26: Delhi Govt Issues Admission Guidelines for Class 10
The Directorate of Education (DoE) has issued a guideline for registration of students of government schools who want to join Class 10 through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) for the academic session 2025-26. The step is under the NIOS project for prevention of dropouts of students who have failed consistently in regular school examinations and being given an opportunity to complete formal education through open schooling, a circular stated.
According to the circular, pupils from DoE-run government schools who have been placed in “compartment” or proclaimed “fail” in Class 9 or 10 at least twice as of the most recent session (2024–25) are eligible to participate in the NIOS Class 10 course.
However, it stated that individuals who failed or received a compartment for the first time during the 2024–25 school year are not eligible for this program and are advised to continue attending their current schools. The circular further stated that pupils are only eligible if they have valid School Leaving Certificates (SLCs) from the relevant school.
School heads are tasked with locating, contacting and registering eligible students. They are also supposed to update entries in the MIS module prior to registration, it said. The circular further details the procedure for registration and states classes will be held in around 75 study centres in Delhi.
Two languages, social science, which is a required course, and two additional subjects with practicals are available to students. According to the circular, the languages are Hindi, English, and Sanskrit. It said science and technology, painting, and home science are among the other courses offered.
According to the circular, students will also qualify for a uniform stipend under the DoE’s Direct Benefit Transfer programme. It also stated that July 31 is the deadline for submitting online applications and payments.
The NIOS 2024–2025 semester results have not yet been released. This year, the NIOS Class 10 and 12 exams began on April 9 for both Indian and international testing locations.
The NIOS Senior Secondary exams began with Bharatiya Darshan on the first day for the Indian learners and ended with Psychology, Sanskrit Vyakaran papers on the last date – May 19.
