WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT ENTRANCE EXAMS FOR ENGINEERING IN INDIA?

To get admission in engineering colleges or universities, students have to appear for Entrance Exams for Engineering which are held or taken by different universities or colleges every year. These engineering entrance examinations are held each year at national level, state level and university level.

Every year, lakhs of students take admission in engineering in different colleges and different universities. Also, more than 15 lakh students graduate as engineers every year.

To take admission in the best universities and colleges, students must be aware of the entrance exams for which they have to prepare for and for which they have to appear for. Most of the students wish to take admission in IITs and NITs, for which they must have the knowledge of the entrance exams which are conducted every year.

DIFFERENT ENGINEERING ENTRANCE EXAMS IN INDIA

JEE MAIN

Joint Entrance Examinations (JEE) MAIN 2022 will be conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA) in multiple phases. JEE Mains 2022 will be held in computer based mode (except the drawing section of Paper 2 (B.Arch.) which is a pen and paper based exam). JEE Main is the first step to take admission in the well-known IIITs, NITs and other more prestigious engineering institutes of the nation.

More than 12 lakh students appear for JEE Main examination to clear and reach JEE Advanced for admissions. This examination consists of multiple choice questions and is of 3 hours. The examination is divided into two papers – Paper 1 is for B.Tech/B.E and Paper 2 is for B.Arch or B.Planning.

JEE ADVANCED

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advance is organized by one of the seven zonal IITs i.e. IIT Roorkee, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Bombay, IIT Hyderabad, and IIT Guwahati on a rotational basis. JEE Advanced provides admission opportunities in various B.Tech.,

Integrated M. Tech. and B.Tech/M.Tech dual degree courses in engineering, architecture, pharmaceuticals and science in all 23 IITs in the country. Candidates or Students who have cleared or qualified JEE MAIN can appear for this JEE Advanced entrance exam. The exam which is conducted under the guidance of the Joint Admission Board will be held in online mode in English as well as Hindi. 

GATE

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is another important engineering entrance exam. The exam is jointly conducted by IISc and Seven IITs on behalf of NCB (National Coordination Board). This is a national level entrance exam.

GATE allows candidates to take admission in M.Tech and Ph.D programmers offered by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) supported institutes and colleges. Students can take admission in different courses that are engineering, architecture, science and technology.

BITSAT

The Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) will conduct the University level engineering entrance exam, BITSAT in online mode. BITSAT (Birla Institute of Technology and Science Admission Test) offers admission to all eligible applicants into the three campuses of BITS. Around 2 lakh students appear for this entrance exam, but only around 2000 seats are available in BITS.

Admissions Offered Into: BITS Pilani , BITS Goa and BITS Hyderabad. The duration of the online examination is 3 hours and the objective based BITSAT question paper is divided into four sections – Physics, Chemistry, English Proficiency and Logical Reasoning and finally Mathematics.  

UPSEE

Uttar Pradesh State Entrance Exam (UPSEE) is a state-level examination held to select students for admissions in various technical colleges of Uttar Pradesh. The UPSEE exam is conducted by Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU).

After clearing this entrance exam students are eligible to take admission into technical courses such as B.Tech, B.Arch, B.Pharm, BFAD, MBA, BFA, BHMCT, MAM and MCA.

VITEEE 2022

Under the VIT Engineering Entrance Exam around 5000 undergraduate engineering seats are available.This is conducted on the university level. Around 2 lakh students appear for the exam every year. The mode of examination is online and will be objective in nature.

Students have to complete this examination within the time limit of 2 and half hours. Admissions Offered Into: VIT Chennai, VIT Vellore , VIT Andhra Pradesh and VIT Bhopal.

COMEDK UGET 2022

Admissions into the engineering courses offered by the Associations of Medical, Dental and Engineering private colleges in the state of Karnataka is done through COMEDK UGET conducted by the Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK). This entrance exam is held across all over India in different exam centers.

Around 20 thousand B.tech seats are offered to students for admission under B.tech. This entrance examination is of 3 hours. This examination is based on the syllabus of the 10+2 standard.

Students have to solve 180 multiple choice questions in the duration of 3 hours.

Admissions Offered Into: Around 181 engineering institutes affiliated to COMEDK UGET. 

MHT CET

State Common Entrance Test Cell, Mumbai will conduct the MHT CET 2022 or Maharashtra Common Entrance Test for admissions to first-year BE/BTech courses in Maharashtra state. Around 4 lakh students appear for this entrance examination every year.

It will be a pen and paper based engineering entrance test. Class 12 students having domicile of Maharashtra will be eligible to apply for MHT CET 2022. Candidates have to cover the Maha HSC syllabus to prepare for MHT CET.

SITEEE 2022

Symbiosis Institute of Technology (SIT) conducts Symbiosis Institute of Technology Engineering Entrance Examination (SITEEE) annually. The students who qualify this entrance exam, will get admission into the University. Also, JEE Main and MHT CET qualified applicants are eligible for admission.

This university level examination has 420 seats available for B.tech. The entrance exam consists of 100 questions and the total marks is 200. The duration of SITEEE is 150 minutes. Admissions Offered Into: Symbiosis Institute of Technology (SIT).

KCET

Karnataka Common Entrance Test also known as Karnataka CET. It is a state level entrance examination which offers students to take admission in engineering, architecture and pharmacy programmers.

The Karnataka Examinations Authority is the conducting authority. This examination score is accepted by many universities and colleges in Karnataka.

AMUEEE 2022

AMUEEE is a University level entrance examination conducted by Aligarh Muslim University for admissions into the available B.Tech programmes. Students are offered admission into the university on the basis of merit and rank obtained in the entrance exam.

AMUEEE is held over a duration of 3 hours and comprises 150 questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. All questions are objective based. Admissions Offered Into: Aligarh Muslim University.
