Engineering Passion is on the Downswing, Desire to Become a Doctor is the New Fad

When it comes to careers, Indians have been known to gravitate towards the more lucrative and “safer” fields such as engineering and medicine.

As you all know, engineering and doctorate are the two most famous careers for students who choose the science stream in their class 12th. But now, passion for engineering is on the downswing, and the desire to become a doctor is the new fad. Today, becoming an engineer is on the downswing. But instead, the dream of becoming a doctor is the latest fad.

There are various statistics from which we can understand that the passion for engineering is on the downswing, and the desire to become a doctor is a new fad. So let’s know and discuss the available statistics :

Let’s look at the data collected by the National Testing Agency; as you all know, The National Testing Agency conducts the entrance examination for engineering JEE Main & JEE Advanced and the medical examination NEET. The report depicts that, this year, 8.69 lakh students registered for the JEE Main entrance examination. And on the other hand, almost around 16 lakh students wrote themselves for the NEET entrance examination.

In the year 2014, the percentage of students who appeared in the JEE main exams compared to NEET was relatively high. Likewise, in 2015 and 2016, students who appeared for JEE paramount compared to NEET were high. But when we look at the statistics of 2017, the students who appeared for both the entrance exams were relatively equal. And from the year 2018, students who appeared in the NEET entrance exam remained high compared to those who appeared for JEE mains.

Demand & Scope Of Engineering and Doctor

Let’s discuss the scope of these two professions: Engineering & Doctor.

Both the professionals, doctors and engineers, are always high in demand worldwide. There are various streams in engineering which students can choose to pursue. With the knowledge and technology used by engineers today, we can use so many new things that we would never have thought. e.g. computers, smart phones, software and many more. The scope of engineering is also not less, many engineers work abroad, but it entirely depends upon the branch of engineering.

When we talk about the medical field, it is the vastest field. There are endless number streams and so many opportunities for doctors. This field will never go out of business. According to reports, out of every one thousand people, there is one doctor in India, a meagre ratio. The scope of doctors is more than the scope of engineers. It is because a doctor has professional certainty and is in demand worldwide. Due to not having a healthy lifestyle, there is a substantial medical risk among people, which only a doctor can cure. The number of diseases is also increasing day by day, which has led to a higher need for doctors. Also, due to the pandemic Covid- 19, people have become more conscious about their physical and mental health.

I hope that you must have got a clear idea about the demand and scope for doctors and engineers.

Advantages Of Doctors In Comparison to Engineers

There are a few advantages of doctors to that over engineers. So let’s discuss them.

Job Security

Finding a job as a doctor is not a challenging task. But finding an appointment for an engineer can be quite hard. Also, a doctor can open a clinic to treat patients, but it might be difficult for an engineer to open a business.

High Paying Scale

A doctor is usually paid high in comparison to engineers. The salary or monthly income of a doctor in India, on average, varies from Rs.30,000 to Rs.50 lakhs per month. Also, there is no fixed income for doctors who run private clinics. Therefore, as compared to doctors, engineers get paid significantly less.

Job Satisfaction

Doctors are the most satisfied persons than others in terms of the job. They use their skills and medical knowledge to improve their patients’ lives. And the improvement in their patients’ conditions gives them great satisfaction.

We can choose what we want to. Life choices are not like the MCQs of exams, where if one answer is wrong, one mark will go. But these are something which affect us lifelong. If we choose something incorrect because others are saying to do it, we may need to suffer for our whole life. So, explore the possibilities of life, choose your profession according to your talents, become what you want and rock the world with your abilities.
