Duolingo English Test (DET) Scores Now Accepted by Over 5,000 Universities Worldwide for UG, PG Admissions

DET scores are now acknowledged by more than 5,000 universities globally for undergraduate and postgraduate admissions. The Duolingo English Test (DET) is a widely recognized language proficiency assessment for programs in countries like the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and Ireland.

In 2023, test takers from over 225 countries certified their English proficiency, with India having the highest number of test takers for the second consecutive year. Indian students applied to programs in 83 countries, indicating a 9% increase from the previous year. The acceptance of DET by an increasing number of institutions reflects a shift toward inclusivity and student empowerment in language proficiency testing, making education more accessible.

Jennifer Dewar, Senior Director of Strategic Engagement at DET, emphasized the importance of providing students with accessible and suitable testing options, ensuring language proficiency testing acts as a bridge, not a barrier, to academic goals. Since 2020, the number of programs recognizing DET has doubled, highlighting a student-centric approach to admissions.

The expanded acceptance of language proficiency tests benefits institutions by attracting a more diverse pool of applicants, fostering a global and inclusive learning environment.
