  1. To be just class 12th pass, from a recognized board. (From any subjects or stream)
  2. Exceptions can be: some exams may require to have English as a compulsory subject or may be requirement of science stream in the recruitment exam.

Given below are the following exams available: –

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) Exam

1. SSC Combined Higher Secondary Level (SSC CHSL)

SSC stands for Staff Selection Commission which conducts an open competitive Combined Higher Secondary Level Examination (CHSL).

  1. Upper Division Clerk (UDC)
  2. Lower Division Clerk (LDC)
  3. Postal Assistant (PA)
  4. Data Entry Operator (DEO)
  5. Sorting Assistant (SA)

Age Limit- 18-27 years (relaxation for reserved categories).

For the position of DEO, A Grade- Passed class 12th with science stream (with Mathematics as a subject).

2. SSC Stenographer Grade ‘C’ & ‘D’ Examination

Staff Selection Commission (SSC), conducts examinations filling up posts of:-

  1. Stenographer Grade ‘C’
  2. Stenographer Grade ‘D’

in the various Ministries, Departments, and Offices of the Government of India. It is a Computer Based Recruitment Examination. 

Stenographer Grade ‘C’ Age Limit- 18-30 years (relaxation for reserved categories).

Stenographer Grade ‘D’ Age Limit- 18-27 years (relaxation for reserved categories).

3. SSC Examination for the Recruitment of Constables & Rifleman

Staff Selection Commission (SSC), conducts examinations filling up posts of:-

  1. Constable (General Duty) in Border Security Force (BSF)
  2. Central Industrial Security Force (CISF)
  3. Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)
  4. Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP)
  5. Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB)
  6. National Investigation Agency (NIA)
  7. Secretariat Security Force (SSF)
  8. Rifleman (General Duty) in Assam Rifles

It is a computer-based recruitment examination. There are a large number of vacancies in these exams as on the posts of Constable (General Duty) in the various cadres of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF).

The age limit is 18-23 years (relaxation for reserved categories).

4. Multi-Tasking (Non-Technical) Staff Examination

Staff Selection Commission (SSC), conducts examinations filling up posts of: –

  1. Multi-Tasking Staff (a Central Government Group C service) in the various Ministries /Departments/offices of the Government of India.

Age limit- 18-27 years (relaxation for reserved categories).

Railway Recruitment Board Examinations (RRB Examinations)

Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) conducts examinations filling up posts of: –

  1. Junior Clerk-cum-Typist
  2. Accounts Clerk-cum-Typist
  3. Junior Time Keeper
  4. Trains Clerk
  5. Commercial-cum-Ticket Clerk
  6. Junior Stenographer Hindi
  7. Junior Stenographer English

Age Limit- In general, the age limit varies from 18-31 years (however, there is a different age limit for different posts available).

Indian Army Soldier Entry Examination

There are various posts available for candidates who have passed class 12th and want to join the Indian Army. The positions available are: –

  1. Firstly, Soldier Clerks for all corps (units or divisions which specialize in one or more than one type of task)
  2. Secondly, Soldier Store Keeper Technical for all corps
  3. Thirdly, Soldier Technical for Technical, Artillery, Army Air Defense, Aviation & Ammunition Examiner

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit – 17 and ½ to 23 years.

Education Requirements: -

Firstly, Soldier Clerks for all corps pass class 12th from any subject with 60% marks in aggregate and minimum 50% marks in every subject.

For, Secondly, Soldier Store Keeper Technical for all corps pass class 12th from any subjects + English and Mathematics OR Book Keeping OR Accounts and with 60% marks in aggregate and minimum 50% marks in each subject.

For, Soldier Technical for Technical, Artillery, Army Air Defense, Aviation & Ammunition Examiner pass class 12th with PCM i.e Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English. 50% marks in aggregate and a minimum of 40% marks in each subject.

National Defense Academy & Naval Academy Examination (NDA & NA Examination)

Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts NDA & NA Recruitment Examinations. Through this examination, candidates can secure admission into the 3-year Military training program at the National Defense Academy Pune and at the Naval Academy, Ezhimala.

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit: 16.5 to 19.5 years

Candidates who are opting for the Indian Army wing at NDA: 10+2 in any stream and with any subjects.

Candidates are opting for Indian Air Force and Indian Navy Wing at the NDA and for the Cadet Entry at Naval Academy: 10+2 in any Science stream with Physics and Mathematics.

State Public Service Commission (PSC) Examination for Clerical Staff / Assistants

In India, every state has its own Public Service Commission (PCS) which is responsible for recruitment for the following posts:

  1. Lower Division Clerk or equivalent positions
  2. Lower Division Assistants or equivalent positions

These jobs are available in the various Ministries/ Departments/ Offices of the State.

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit- 18-30 years. (Relaxation for reserved categories). Also, some states allow the upper age limit to even 40 years.

As the state changes, eligibility criteria also change, one of the changes are: –

Some states ask for a class 10th passing certificate from the Board Examination or Secondary examination.

While others ask for a pass in the Class 12th Board Examination.
